Houston brick restoration takes many forms ranging from carefully restoring historic brick buildings to repairing deteriorating bricks and mortar. Depending on the nature of the project, the restoration may require antique bricks, brick cleaning, brick matching, custom mortar mixing, and brick coloring. If the building is a historic Houston home, additional care may be required.
With over two decades in the Texas brick restoration business, Houston Brick Restoration has the expertise that your building requires. First, we assess the nature of the brickwork’s deterioration. Does the brick need to be restored due to age, structural damage, or some other cause? Once we identify the cause, we address it! For example, if the building’s foundation is crumbling, it won’t do any good to restore the bricks without also repairing the foundation. Houston Brick Restoration is part of a larger general contracting firm, making it possible for us to handle all aspects of the brick restoration project including making structural repairs.
After assessing the cause of the brick damage, we also evaluate the best restoration approach for the project. For example, if your house features plastered bricks, would it be better to restore the plaster or remove it altogether. This will depend on the brickwork’s historic significance, the plaster’s current condition, and your preferences.
Once the project has been thoroughly evaluated and recommendations made, we’ll begin the restoration process using quality materials and appropriate masonry techniques. For historic restorations, authenticity is important – all the way down to the mortar recipe used. We take samples and create authentic mortar mixes when working on a historic brick restoration. If the goal of the project is conservation and preservation rather than restoration, we’ll employ the latest conservation and preservation techniques to prolong the life of the brickwork without significantly altering it.
It’s not unusual for modern brickwork to need restoration. For modern brick restorations, the authenticity of the restoration is less important. This doesn’t mean that we should cut corners. Rather, it means that we don’t need to be as historically accurate. For example, if your home was built in 2001, we don’t necessarily need to hunt down bricks manufactured in 2001 as we might do if your home was built in the 1880s. We’ll still want to perform brick and mortar matching so that any replacements match and your restoration looks as good as the original.
